Celebrate summer cookouts or patriotic holidays with these Star Spangled Cheeseburgers, a festive twist on the classic all-American burger! Made with juicy, flavorful ground beef patties seasoned with garlic powder and paprika, these burgers are topped with melted cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, red onion, and tangy pickles. What sets them apart is the star-shaped cheese garnish, adding a playful and patriotic flair to your plate. Toasted buttered buns provide the perfect foundation for this hearty creation, while a blend of ketchup and mayonnaise ties all the flavors together. Ready in just 25 minutes, this recipe is perfect for backyard BBQs, Fourth of July celebrations, or anytime you're craving a show-stopping burger that's as tasty as it is photogenic.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix until just combined; avoid overworking the meat.
Divide the seasoned beef mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty approximately ¾ inch thick and slightly wider than the buns, as they will shrink during cooking.
Preheat a grill or stovetop skillet to medium-high heat. Lightly grease the grill or skillet with oil to prevent sticking.
Place the burger patties onto the grill or skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side, without pressing down on them.
Flip the patties and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (for medium). During the last 2 minutes of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.
While the patties are cooking, butter the insides of the hamburger buns. Toast the buns on the grill or in a skillet for about 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
Using a small star-shaped cookie cutter, punch star shapes out of additional cheese slices. Set the stars aside for decorating the burgers later.
Assemble the burgers by spreading ketchup and mayonnaise on the bottom bun. Add a layer of lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese.
Top the patty with a slice of tomato, a few onion rings, and 3 pickle slices. Finish with the top bun.
Garnish each burger with the star-shaped cheese slices on top for a festive touch. Serve immediately and enjoy!
