📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Place the ribeye steak in the freezer for 30-45 minutes to firm up slightly, making it easier to slice thinly.

2

Remove the steak from the freezer and use a sharp knife to slice it as thinly as possible, against the grain. Set aside.

3

Peel and thinly slice the yellow onion into strips.

4

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.

5

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. Turn the heat to medium-high and add the thinly sliced ribeye. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Cook, stirring, until the meat is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

6

Reduce the heat to low and return the caramelized onions to the skillet with the steak. Stir to combine.

7

Place 2 slices of provolone cheese per sandwich on top of the steak and onion mixture in the skillet. Allow the cheese to melt, about 1-2 minutes.

8

While the cheese is melting, spread the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter along the inside of the hoagie rolls and lightly toast them in a clean pan over medium heat, or in the oven under broil settings until just golden.

9

Using a spatula, scoop a portion of the steak, onion, and melted cheese mixture onto each toasted hoagie roll.

10

Serve immediately while warm and enjoy the authentic Philly Cheese Steak experience!
