Trim the ends off the green beans and cut them in half if they are very long.
Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and slice them into even pieces.
Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.
In a large skillet, bring 1 cup of water to a simmer over medium heat. Add the green beans and cover. Steam the green beans for about 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
In the same skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden and have released their liquid.
Add the minced garlic to the mushrooms and cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
Return the green beans to the skillet and toss them with the mushrooms. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the green beans are fully tender and everything is well coated.
Drizzle balsamic glaze over the top if desired, and give it one final stir.
Remove from heat and serve warm.
