πŸ“ Instructions

10 steps
1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, dry yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.

2

Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing with a wooden spoon until the batter is smooth and lump-free.

3

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel and place it in a warm spot to rise for about 1 hour or until the batter doubles in size.

4

While the batter is rising, prepare the syrup by combining honey and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat and stir until the honey dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

5

Once the batter has risen, heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot or frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 180Β°C (350Β°F).

6

Dip a teaspoon or small scoop into a glass of water (to prevent sticking) and use it to drop small portions of the batter into the hot oil.

7

Fry the loukamades in batches, turning them occasionally so they cook evenly, until they are golden brown (about 3–4 minutes per batch).

8

Use a slotted spoon to remove the loukamades from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

9

Once all the loukamades are fried, drizzle them generously with the honey syrup.

10

Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and crushed walnuts, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
