📝 Instructions

11 steps
1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.

2

Add the chopped onion, carrot, celery, and garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

3

Add the minced beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

4

Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.

5

Pour in the beef stock, then add the tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything together and bring to a gentle simmer.

6

Cover the pan partially and let the mixture cook for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a little more stock or water.

7

In the last 5 minutes of cooking, stir in the frozen peas and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

8

While the mince is cooking, prepare the mashed potatoes. Place the peeled and quartered potatoes in a large pot of cold, salted water.

9

Bring the pot to a boil and cook the potatoes for 15-20 minutes until tender and easily pierced with a fork.

10

Drain the potatoes well and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

11

Serve the mince hot, spooned over a generous portion of mashed potatoes (the tatties). Enjoy your warming plate of classic Mince Tatties!
