Indulge in the cozy flavors of the holiday season with this Dairy-Free Classic Homemade Egg Nog! Crafted with creamy almond milk and coconut milk, this recipe transforms the traditional egg nog into a luscious, lactose-free treat without sacrificing its rich, velvety texture. Whisked together with egg yolks, a touch of sugar, and a festive blend of warming spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves, this non-dairy version is the perfect balance of sweet and spiced. Easily customizable with a splash of rum or bourbon for an adult twist, this dairy-free egg nog is ideal for holiday parties or quiet evenings by the fire. Ready in just 35 minutes and best served chilled, itβs a delicious and wholesome way to toast the season, without the dairy!
In a medium saucepan, combine almond milk and coconut milk. Warm over medium heat until hot but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks, granulated sugar, and salt until the mixture is smooth and has a pale yellow color.
Gradually add about 1/4 cup of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolks, whisking constantly to temper the yolks and prevent them from curdling.
Slowly whisk the tempered yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining hot milk.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of the spoon. Do not let it boil.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon, and clove powder.
Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
Once chilled, if you opt to use it, stir in rum or bourbon.
Before serving, give the egg nog a good whisk to recombine any settled ingredients. Serve in glasses, and optionally sprinkle with additional nutmeg or cinnamon for garnish.
