📝 Instructions

13 steps
1

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2

In a small saucepan, warm the milk over low heat until it's just warm to the touch. Add the butter and stir until melted. Allow to cool slightly.

3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.

4

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture, milk and butter mixture, and beaten egg. Stir until a dough begins to form.

5

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes on medium speed.

6

Flatten the dough slightly and sprinkle it with the chopped parsley, thyme, and shredded cheddar cheese. Knead gently to incorporate them evenly into the dough.

7

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

8

Punch the dough down and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.

9

Cover the loaf pan with the towel again and let it rise for another 30 minutes until puffed up.

10

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

11

Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

12

If desired, brush the top with olive oil for extra shine and flavor immediately after removing from the oven.

13

Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
