📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x9-inch casserole dish and set it aside.

2

Peel the turnips and apples, then slice both into thin rounds about 1/8-inch thick.

3

In a large pot of salted boiling water, blanch the turnip slices for 3 minutes. Drain and pat them dry with paper towels.

4

In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the apples and sauté for 5 minutes until slightly softened. Remove from the heat and set aside.

5

In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Cook the sauce for 3-4 minutes until thickened.

6

Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

7

Layer half of the turnip slices in the prepared casserole dish, followed by half of the sautéed apples. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the layer. Repeat the layers with the remaining turnips, apples, and cheese sauce.

8

In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the olive oil and chopped parsley. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.

9

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

10

Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
