📝 Instructions

8 steps
1

Peel and cube the potatoes. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the potatoes, and cook until fork-tender, approximately 15–20 minutes.

2

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and form into four oval-shaped patties.

3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

4

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onion and mushrooms, cooking until softened and browned, about 5–7 minutes.

5

Stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.

6

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Gradually stir the slurry into the skillet to thicken the gravy. Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes, turning once.

7

While the steak simmers, drain the boiled potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk, minced garlic, butter, and salt. Mash until smooth and creamy.

8

Serve the Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy over the mashed potatoes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
