Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour to form a roux, cooking for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in the chicken broth until smooth and slightly thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
