Built on crispy French baguettes or soft sandwich rolls, these sandwiches are piled high with layers of thinly sliced salami, creamy provolone cheese, and a flavorful garlic-infused Dijon mustard and mayo spread. The optional addition of fresh basil adds a pop of fragrant freshness, while butter and olive oil ensure a perfectly golden, crunchy crust. Whether cooked in a panini press or skillet, the cheese melts to gooey perfection in just 10 minutes, making this recipe as speedy as it is satisfying. Perfect for sandwich lovers, this hot and hearty meal is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
Preheat a panini press or large skillet over medium heat.
Slice the baguettes or sandwich rolls in half lengthwise. If the bread is too thick, hollow out a bit of the middle to create room for the filling.
In a small bowl, mix the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and minced garlic to create a spread.
Spread the mustard-mayo mixture generously on the inside of each half of the bread.
Layer the bottom halves of the bread with equal portions of salami, followed by 3 slices of provolone cheese each. Add fresh basil leaves if desired.
Place the top halves of the bread over the filling. Lightly brush the outside of the bread with olive oil.
Melt the butter in the preheated skillet or apply it to the panini press. Carefully place the sandwiches on the skillet or in the press.
Cook for 3-5 minutes on each side (or close the press for even cooking) until the bread is crispy and golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Remove the sandwiches from the heat, let them cool for 1-2 minutes, and slice each sandwich in half for easy serving.
Serve immediately and enjoy your hot, melty salami sandwiches!
