📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.

2

Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin, even rounds (about 1/8 inch thick). Set aside.

3

Dice the onion and mince the garlic. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess grease.

4

Stir in the diced onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika, and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onions are softened. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.

5

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and whisk in the flour to form a smooth paste. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

6

Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continually to avoid lumps. Cook the mixture for 4-5 minutes until it thickens, then remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

7

To assemble the casserole, layer half of the potato slices evenly in the prepared baking dish. Spread half of the cooked ground beef mixture on top, then pour half of the cheese sauce over it. Repeat the layers with the remaining potato slices, ground beef, and cheese sauce.

8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

9

Return the casserole to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

10

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with chopped parsley, if desired.
