Indulge in the comforting flavors of this hearty Gnocchi with Sausage and Swiss Chard recipe, a perfect one-pan meal that’s both satisfying and elegant. Pillowy gnocchi is tossed in a creamy sauce infused with the savory goodness of browned Italian sausage, the earthy notes of Swiss chard, and a hint of garlic. The addition of Parmesan cheese and a touch of red pepper flakes elevates the dish with a balance of richness and spice, while fresh parsley adds a bright, herbaceous finish. Ready in just 35 minutes, this easy dinner recipe is perfect for busy weeknights yet special enough for guests. Serve this wholesome dish with a sprinkle of extra Parmesan and crusty bread to soak up every last drop of the velvety sauce.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the gnocchi.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it into smaller pieces with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it.
Add the chopped Swiss chard to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 3-5 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Return the browned sausage to the skillet, then stir in the heavy cream and chicken broth. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to thicken slightly.
Meanwhile, cook the gnocchi according to the package instructions in the boiling water. They are done when they float to the surface, usually in 2-3 minutes. Drain the gnocchi and reserve about 1/4 cup of the pasta water.
Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the sausage, Swiss chard, and sauce. Toss everything to coat evenly. If the sauce appears too thick, add a little of the reserved pasta water to loosen it.
Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. Adjust seasoning with more salt and black pepper if needed.
Serve the gnocchi immediately, garnished with chopped fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
