Fill a large stockpot with 6 quarts of water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
Add the tablespoon of salt, 3 tablespoons of Old Bay seasoning, and the whole lemon (sliced in half) to the boiling water.
Carefully add the red potatoes to the pot and cook for 10 minutes, or until they begin to soften.
Slice the smoked sausage into 1-inch pieces and add them to the pot with the potatoes. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Shuck the corn and cut each ear into 3 pieces. Add the corn to the pot and cook for 5 minutes.
Lastly, add the shrimp to the pot. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the shrimp are pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook.
Drain the contents of the pot using a large colander and discard the lemon halves.
Serve the Frogmore Stew immediately on a large platter or spread it out on a newspaper-lined table for a traditional Lowcountry presentation.
Optional: Serve with melted butter and hot sauce on the side for dipping.
