Indulge in the rich, bold flavors of Dairy-Free Vietnamese Iced Coffee, a refreshing twist on a classic favorite with creamy, plant-based goodness. This recipe captures the essence of traditional Vietnamese coffee, using a phin filter to create a slow-drip brew from dark roast coffee grounds, ensuring robust and aromatic results. Instead of traditional sweetened condensed milk, this dairy-free version features velvety sweetened condensed coconut milk, adding a delightful tropical note while keeping things lactose-free. Ready in just 10 minutes, this easy recipe is perfect for hot days or when you're craving a cool, invigorating pick-me-up. Serve it over ice for the ultimate refreshing sip!
Gather all your ingredients and equipment: a Vietnamese coffee filter (also called a phin), a heatproof glass, and a spoon.
Place the phin coffee filter over the heatproof glass and add 2 tablespoons of medium-ground dark roast coffee to the filter chamber. Gently press the coffee grounds with the filterβs gravity press to level them, but donβt pack them too tightly.
Pour a small amount of boiling water (about 2 tablespoons) into the filter to bloom the coffee grounds. Let it sit for 30 seconds to bring out the robust flavors.
Slowly pour the remaining boiling water (3/4 cup) into the coffee filter. Cover the filter with its lid and allow the coffee to drip through. This should take about 4-5 minutes. If it drips too fast, press the grounds more firmly; if it drips too slowly, loosen the press slightly.
Once the coffee has finished dripping, remove the phin filter and stir 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed coconut milk into the coffee until fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste if desired.
Fill a separate glass with 1 cup of ice cubes, then pour the sweetened coffee over the ice.
Stir well and enjoy your refreshing Dairy-Free Vietnamese Iced Coffee!
