📝 Instructions

8 steps
1

Remove the labels from the cans of sweetened condensed milk. Do not open the cans.

2

Place the cans (label-side removed) on their sides in the bottom of a crockpot to ensure they don’t move or tip over during cooking.

3

Fill the crockpot with enough water to completely submerge the cans, making sure there is at least 1 inch of water above the top of the cans.

4

Set the crockpot on the LOW setting and cook for 8-10 hours. For a lighter dulce de leche, cook closer to 8 hours. For a darker and thicker caramel, aim for 10 hours.

5

Check the water level periodically to ensure the cans remain fully submerged. Add more hot water as needed to keep them covered.

6

Once cooking time is complete, turn off the crockpot and carefully remove the cans using tongs or a heatproof glove. Allow the cans to cool completely at room temperature before opening. Do NOT open the cans while they are hot, as the contents could be under pressure and may cause burns.

7

Once cooled, open the cans and transfer the creamy dulce de leche to a clean jar or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

8

Enjoy as a topping for pancakes, waffles, ice cream, or as a filling for pastries and desserts!
