Indulge in the irresistible sweetness and crispy delight of Classic Filipino Turon, a beloved street food snack and dessert that perfectly captures the vibrant flavors of the Philippines. This recipe wraps ripe saba bananas and tender strips of jackfruit in delicate spring roll wrappers, sprinkling each with a touch of granulated sugar for caramelized bliss. The rolls are fried to golden perfection, creating a crunchy exterior that encases the juicy, tropical filling. With minimal prep time and simple ingredients, this authentic treat is ideal for satisfying your cravings or impressing guests with a unique taste of Filipino cuisine. Perfectly paired with coffee or enjoyed on its own, turon is a must-try for dessert lovers who appreciate the bold combination of texture and flavor.
Peel the saba bananas and slice each lengthwise into two equal halves.
Open the can or package of jackfruit and cut the flesh into strips, about 1/4 inch wide.
Separate the spring roll wrappers and place on a clean, dry surface.
Lay one spring roll wrapper flat on a cutting board. Place one slice of banana and a few strips of jackfruit on the edge closest to you.
Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar on top of the banana and jackfruit.
Carefully begin to roll the wrapper away from you, folding the sides as you roll to secure the filling. Dampen the edge of the spring roll wrapper with water to seal the roll.
Repeat steps 4-6 until all the bananas, jackfruit, and wrappers are used up.
In a large, deep pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (180°C).
Gently add the turon rolls, a few pieces at a time to avoid overcrowding, and fry for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until they are crispy and golden brown.
Once cooked, remove the turon from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Allow the turon to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a snack or dessert.
