Flaky, golden, and bursting with the warm, spiced sweetness of tender apples, these Super Simple Apple Turnovers are the ultimate easy dessert or snack. Made with convenient store-bought puff pastry and a luscious homemade apple filling featuring cinnamon, brown sugar, and a touch of butter, this recipe comes together in just 40 minutes. Perfect for using seasonal apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, these turnovers deliver bakery-quality results with minimal effort. Whether dusted with powdered sugar for a stunning finish or enjoyed fresh from the oven, theyβre an irresistible treat for fall gatherings, holiday brunches, or a cozy weeknight indulgence.
Preheat your oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Peel, core, and dice the apples into small cubes.
In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Unfold the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Roll each sheet slightly to remove creases, then cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.
Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cooled apple filling into the center of each puff pastry square.
Fold each square diagonally to form a triangle, then seal the edges by pressing them with a fork. Make small slits on the top of each turnover to help release steam while baking.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top of each turnover to help them achieve a golden brown color in the oven.
Transfer the turnovers to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
Allow the turnovers to cool for a few minutes on a wire rack. If desired, dust the tops with powdered sugar before serving.
