📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Start by ensuring your grouper fillet is clean and pat it dry with a paper towel. Place it on a heatproof plate that can fit inside your steamer.

2

Sprinkle the salt and ground white pepper evenly over both sides of the fish.

3

Spread the sliced ginger across the top of the grouper fillet. This will impart a delightful aroma as it steams.

4

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and rice wine (if using). Pour this mixture over the fish.

5

Prepare your steamer by bringing water to a boil over high heat. Make sure there is enough water to steam for at least 20 minutes without drying out.

6

Once the water is boiling, carefully place the grouper fillet (on its plate) into the steamer. Cover and steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

7

While the fish is steaming, prepare the scallions by cutting them and set aside.

8

Once the fish is done, remove it from the steamer carefully, as the plate will be very hot. Scatter the scallions over the top of the fish.

9

Optionally, you can heat a teaspoon of hot oil in a small pan and pour it over the scallions to sizzle them slightly, bringing out their flavor.

10

Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving. Serve the steamed grouper immediately, ideally with steamed rice on the side.
