📝 Instructions

9 steps
1

Press the tofu: Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object (such as a skillet or cookbook) on top. Let it press for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Then cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.

2

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, grated ginger, and minced garlic to create the marinade.

3

Place the tofu cubes in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over the tofu. Let the tofu marinate for 15 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even coating.

4

In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth to create a slurry. Set aside.

5

Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Remove the tofu from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and add the tofu to the pan. Cook for 4-5 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the tofu is golden and crispy on all sides. Remove the tofu from the pan and set aside.

6

Add the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil to the skillet and add the sliced red bell pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.

7

Add the reserved marinade and pineapple chunks to the skillet. Bring it to a simmer. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.

8

Return the tofu to the skillet and toss gently to coat it in the sauce. Cook for 2 more minutes until everything is heated through.

9

Serve the Maui Tofu over a bed of cooked jasmine rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
