Perfectly flaky, delightfully sweet, and incredibly easy to make, these Jam Straws are a quick treat that will impress with minimal effort! Using buttery puff pastry as the base, these golden-brown twists are filled with your favorite fruity jam—be it raspberry, strawberry, or apricot—making them endlessly customizable. A touch of egg wash adds a beautiful golden sheen, while a sprinkle of sugar lends an optional crunch and sparkle. Ready in just 25 minutes, these spiral pastries are ideal for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or as a charming addition to your dessert tray. Serve them warm or at room temperature, and watch them disappear in no time!
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet if needed to ensure it's an even thickness, approximately 10x12 inches.
Spread the jam evenly over one half of the puff pastry sheet, leaving a 1/4-inch border along the edges to prevent spillage.
Fold the plain half of the pastry sheet over the jam-covered half, aligning the edges to create a sandwich.
Gently press down on the edges to seal them slightly.
Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the folded pastry into 12 strips, approximately 1-inch wide.
Take each strip and twist the ends in opposite directions to create a spiral effect. Place the twisted strips onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create the egg wash. Brush the tops of each pastry strip lightly with the egg wash.
If desired, sprinkle granulated sugar on top for extra sweetness and texture.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the jam straws are golden brown and puffed.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your gorgeous homemade jam straws!
