📝 Instructions

7 steps
1

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the Italian sausage links and cook them for 7-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through. Transfer the sausages to a plate and tent with foil to keep warm.

2

Thinly slice the green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and yellow onion. Mince the garlic cloves.

3

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced peppers, onions, and minced garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

4

While the vegetables are cooking, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. Spread a light layer of butter on the inner sides of the rolls and lightly toast them in a separate skillet or under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

5

Place one Italian sausage link on each toasted hoagie roll. Top with a generous serving of the sautéed peppers and onions.

6

Place a slice of provolone cheese on top of the sausage and vegetables. If desired, place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.

7

Serve the Italian sausage sandwiches hot, and enjoy!
