📝 Instructions

12 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).

2

Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened, then add the garlic and cook for another minute.

3

Add the ground beef to the pan. Cook, breaking up any clumps with a wooden spoon, until the meat is browned and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.

4

Stir in the beef stock, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well to combine.

5

Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir thoroughly to thicken the filling. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to remove the raw flour taste. Season with salt and black pepper. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

6

Grease four individual pie tins. Line each tin with a shortcrust pastry sheet, trimming any excess around the edges. Press the pastry gently into the tins.

7

Divide the beef filling mixture evenly among the four pastry-lined tins.

8

Cut the puff pastry sheets into rounds large enough to cover the tops of the pies. Place a puff pastry round on top of each pie, pressing the edges gently to seal. Trim any excess pastry.

9

Brush the tops of the pies with the lightly beaten egg to create a golden crust.

10

Use a small knife to make a small slit or two in the top of each pie to allow steam to escape during baking.

11

Place the pies on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

12

Remove from the oven and allow the pies to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Good Ol' Aussie Meat Pie!
