Ready in just 35 minutes, this homemade relish is a fragrant and visually stunning accompaniment that can also double as a flavorful spread in sandwiches. Make-ahead friendly and naturally festive, itβs the ultimate centerpiece for your seasonal gatherings.
Rinse and sort the cranberries, discarding any that are bruised or damaged.
Remove the stems from the dried figs and chop them into small pieces.
In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice, water, and sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add the cranberries, chopped figs, orange zest, cinnamon, grated ginger, and salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have burst and the mixture thickens.
If using walnuts, fold them into the relish during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the relish cool to room temperature. As it cools, it will continue to thicken.
Transfer the relish to a serving dish or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Serve chilled or at room temperature alongside turkey, pork, or as a flavorful addition to sandwiches and cheese boards.
