📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line a round 9-inch (23 cm) cake pan with parchment paper.

2

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand or stand mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

4

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

5

With the mixer on low speed, add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk (starting and ending with the dry ingredients). Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

6

Gently fold in 2/3 of the halved cherries using a spatula, reserving the remaining cherries for the top of the cake.

7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Arrange the reserved cherries, cut side up, evenly over the top of the batter.

8

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

9

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

10

Optional: Once the cake has cooled, dust the top lightly with powdered sugar before serving.
