Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of fall with this Crock Pot Apple Brown Betty, a timeless dessert thatโs as simple as it is satisfying. Perfectly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, this slow-cooked recipe combines tender layers of tart apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) with a rich, buttery breadcrumb topping sweetened with brown sugar. The addition of lemon juice and vanilla extract enhances the flavor, while a touch of water ensures the apples become irresistibly soft and bubbly. With minimal prep time and the ease of a crock pot, this dessert is perfect for gatherings or cozy evenings at home. Serve it warm with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic treat thatโs sure to delight!
Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Place them in a large mixing bowl.
Add lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg to the apples. Toss to coat evenly.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar and mix until smooth.
Add the breadcrumbs to the butter and brown sugar mixture. Stir well until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.
Grease the inside of your crock pot lightly with butter or non-stick spray.
Start layering the ingredients in the crock pot. Begin with a layer of apples (about half), then add half of the breadcrumb mixture on top. Repeat with the remaining apples and breadcrumbs as the final layer.
Pour the water evenly over the top to help the apples soften as they cook.
Cover the crock pot with the lid and set it to low heat. Cook for 3 hours, or until the apples are tender and the mixture is bubbly.
Once done, turn off the crock pot and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
