Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Season the chicken breasts with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning on both sides.
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken breasts and sear for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
Add the asparagus to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes until slightly tender. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper, then drizzle with lemon juice.
Return the seared chicken breasts to the skillet, placing them on top of the asparagus.
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the chicken breasts.
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Carefully remove the skillet from the oven and let the dish rest for 5 minutes.
Serve the Chicken Asparagus Melt warm, garnished with additional Italian seasoning or freshly chopped parsley if desired.
