Rinse the dried navy beans under cold water and remove any debris.

Place the beans in a large pot and cover them with 8 cups of water. Let the beans soak overnight or for at least 8 hours.

After soaking, drain and rinse the beans. Refill the pot with fresh water and bring the beans to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 60 minutes, or until the beans are tender. Drain and set aside.
