πŸ“ Instructions

10 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

3

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

4

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned and no pink remains, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.

5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon of salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes to combine the flavors. Remove from heat.

6

In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, and chopped parsley.

7

To assemble the casserole, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Add a layer of pasta, then spread half of the ricotta mixture on top. Sprinkle with a handful of mozzarella cheese.

8

Repeat the layers: meat sauce, pasta, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Finish with a layer of the remaining meat sauce and top generously with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden on top.

10

Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra parsley, if desired.
