📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) or 180°C (fan-assisted).

2

In a large bowl, mix the self-raising flour, suet, and caster sugar until well combined.

3

Gradually add the milk while mixing to form a soft, pliable dough. Be careful not to overwork the dough.

4

Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough out to a rectangle approximately 25cm x 20cm (10in x 8in).

5

Spread the jam evenly over the dough, leaving a 2cm (1in) border around the edges to prevent the jam from spilling out.

6

Carefully roll the dough up from one short side to the other, like a Swiss roll, ensuring the seam is on the bottom.

7

Grease a sheet of parchment paper with butter and wrap the roly poly in it, folding the ends to seal. Then wrap the parchment package in a layer of foil to keep moisture in.

8

Place the wrapped roly poly on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until firm to the touch.

9

Remove from the oven and carefully unwrap the parchment and foil. Allow it to cool for a couple of minutes.

10

Slice and serve your jam roly poly warm, ideally with a generous pour of custard.
