📝 Instructions

11 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut the unsalted butter into small cubes and add to the flour mixture.

3

Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, blend the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4

Gradually add the cold water, mixing gently with a fork until the dough begins to come together.

5

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly to form a cohesive ball. Flatten it into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

6

Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about a 0.5cm thickness. Cut the dough into 8 even rectangles.

7

Place a heaping teaspoon of jam in the center of each rectangle, leaving a border around the edges.

8

Fold the dough over the filling, pressing the edges with a fork to seal the pastries.

9

Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

10

Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

11

Once baked, remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
