Indulge in the irresistible delight of homemade Jam Doughnuts, a classic treat with a fluffy, golden exterior and a sweet, fruity surprise inside. This recipe combines simple pantry staples like all-purpose flour, sugar, and butter to create a perfectly soft and airy dough, enriched with the warmth of vanilla and a hint of richness from milk and egg. After a leisurely rise, these doughnuts are fried to golden perfection, then filled with your favorite jam—whether it's strawberry, raspberry, or apricot—for a burst of flavor in every bite. Finished with a generous roll in powdered sugar, these doughnuts are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a snack, they’re worth every moment of preparation. Whether served warm or at room temperature, these jam-filled indulgences promise to delight.
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter melts. Let it cool until it's lukewarm, then add it to the flour mixture.
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. You can use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface to about 1cm thickness.
Use a doughnut cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the dough.
Place the dough circles on a lightly floured baking tray and cover them with a towel. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
In a heavy-bottomed pan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F). Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches, cooking each side for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the doughnuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels.
Using a piping bag fitted with a round tip, fill each doughnut with your choice of jam by inserting the tip into the side of the doughnut and squeezing gently.
Once all the doughnuts are filled, roll them in powdered sugar until well-coated.
Serve the jam doughnuts warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
