Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
Remove the turkey from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Pat the turkey dry with paper towels, ensuring the skin is free of moisture for better browning.
Prepare the herb butter by combining the softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, diced rosemary, thyme, and sage in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
Loosen the turkey skin by gently sliding your fingers between the meat and skin. Carefully spread half of the herb butter mixture under the skin, spreading it evenly over the breast and legs.
Rub the remaining herb butter all over the outside of the turkey.
Season the cavity with half the salt and pepper. Stuff it with the quartered onion, chopped carrots, celery, and a halved lemon.
Transfer the turkey to a roasting pan fitted with a rack. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan to keep the turkey moist during cooking.
Season the outside of the turkey with the remaining salt and pepper.
Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for 2 1/2 hours.
Remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C). Continue roasting for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) when measured in the thickest part of the breast and 175°F (79°C) in the thigh.
Baste the turkey every 30 minutes during cooking for extra moisture and flavor.
Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and tent it with aluminum foil. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
Carve the turkey and serve with your favorite side dishes. Enjoy your delicious roast turkey!
