📝 Instructions

10 steps
1

Place the frozen peas in a bowl and set aside to thaw slightly while you prepare the other ingredients.

2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cool, crumble the bacon into small pieces and set aside.

3

In the same skillet, remove all but 1 tablespoon of bacon grease. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and let it melt over medium heat.

4

Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms are golden and their liquid has evaporated. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute. Remove the mushrooms and garlic mixture from the skillet and set aside.

5

In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in the all-purpose flour and cook, whisking constantly, for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is golden and smells nutty.

6

Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream, continuing to whisk until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken, about 3-4 minutes.

7

Season the cream sauce with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg, if using. Stir to combine.

8

Add the peas and the sautéed mushrooms to the sauce. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often, until the peas are tender and heated through.

9

Stir in the crumbled bacon and mix well.

10

Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
