📝 Instructions

12 steps
1

Heat the milk gently in a saucepan until warm (not hot to the touch). Remove from heat and add the dry yeast and 1 teaspoon of the sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Mix well.

3

Add the frothy yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter to the bowl. Mix until a dough begins to form.

4

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5–7 minutes.

5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

6

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each one.

7

Cover the buns with a damp towel and let them rise again for 30 minutes.

8

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Once risen, bake the buns for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let cool completely on a wire rack.

9

While the buns cool, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form. Chill the whipped cream until ready to use.

10

Once the buns are completely cool, use a sharp knife to make a slit in the side of each bun without cutting all the way through.

11

Using a piping bag or spoon, fill each bun generously with the whipped cream.

12

Dust the filled cream buns with powdered sugar before serving.
