📝 Instructions

8 steps
1

Begin by rinsing the fresh basil leaves under cool water to remove any dirt. Gently pat them dry with a clean towel or paper towel.

2

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the chopped Medjool dates. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

3

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer, uncovered, for about 10 minutes. This will allow the dates to soften and release their natural sweetness.

4

After 10 minutes, add the fresh basil leaves into the saucepan and continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Make sure the leaves are fully submerged in the liquid.

5

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. This steeping process allows the basil flavor to infuse into the syrup.

6

Once cooled, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean jar or a glass bottle, pressing down on the date solids to extract as much syrup as possible.

7

Discard the remaining solids. Store the basil syrup in the refrigerator, sealed tightly, for up to 1-2 weeks.

8

Use this Whole30 Basil Syrup to sweeten iced tea, make basil sodas with sparkling water, or drizzle over fresh fruit.
