📝 Instructions

12 steps
1

Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey inside and out with cold water, then pat dry with paper towels.

2

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

3

In a small bowl, mix the salt, ground black pepper, thyme, rosemary, and garlic powder. Rub this seasoning mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin and inside the cavity.

4

Place the quartered onion, chopped carrots, and celery into the cavity of the turkey.

5

Rub the unsalted butter all over the surface of the turkey.

6

Place the turkey on a rack in a large roasting pan. Pour the chicken or turkey broth into the bottom of the pan to prevent drippings from burning.

7

Put the turkey in the oven and roast at 450°F (230°C) for 30 minutes, uncovered, to achieve a golden color.

8

After 30 minutes, remove the turkey from the oven and cover it tightly with aluminum foil. Reduce the oven temperature to 200°F (93°C).

9

Return the covered turkey to the oven and roast it overnight for 7 to 8 hours (or approximately 40 minutes per pound).

10

In the morning, check the turkey's internal temperature with a meat thermometer. The breast should read 165°F (74°C) and the thighs should read 175°F (79°C).

11

Once the turkey reaches the proper temperature, remove it from the oven and let it rest, still covered, for 30 minutes before carving.

12

Serve alongside your favorite Thanksgiving sides and enjoy a stress-free meal!
