Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Stir in the ground pork and ground beef, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, and cook until no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes.
Add the grated potato, chicken or beef broth, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
Simmer the mixture for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has mostly evaporated but the mixture is still moist. Remove it from heat and let it cool slightly.
Roll out one disc of pie crust dough on a floured surface and use it to line a 9-inch (23-cm) pie pan.
Fill the crust with the meat mixture, spreading it evenly.
Roll out the second disc of pie crust dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and water to make the egg wash. Brush it over the top crust.
Cut a few small slits in the top of the pie to allow steam to escape while baking.
Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is heated through.
Let the Tourtière cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
