πŸ“ Instructions

10 steps
1

Peel the potatoes and chop them into large chunks. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15 minutes.

2

Preheat the oven to 200Β°C (400Β°F).

3

While the potatoes are cooking, poach the white fish fillets. Place them in a shallow pan, cover with milk (reserving 50ml for later), and gently simmer over low heat for 5-7 minutes until the fish is cooked through. Remove the fish, flake it into chunks, and set aside. Reserve the poaching milk.

4

Drain the potatoes and mash them with 25g of butter and 50ml of the reserved poaching milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then set aside.

5

In a small saucepan, melt the remaining butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the reserved poaching milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.

6

Stir in the Dijon mustard, chopped parsley, and half of the grated cheddar cheese into the sauce. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

7

In a baking dish, spread the flaked fish evenly over the bottom. Pour the sauce over the fish, ensuring it’s evenly coated.

8

Spoon the mashed potatoes over the top, smoothing them with a spatula. Use a fork to create ridges on the surface for extra crispiness. Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly over the top.

9

Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

10

Let the fish potato pie rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty and delicious meal!
