Indulge in the bold, irresistible flavors of Spicy Mutton Chops, a dish that promises to elevate your dining experience with its rich, aromatic spices and tender, juicy meat. These mutton chops are marinated in a luscious blend of yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, and a medley of Indian spices, including garam masala, coriander, and cumin, ensuring each bite is packed with depth and heat. Seared to golden perfection and slow-cooked with caramelized onions and green chilies, the chops are simmered to tender, fall-off-the-bone goodness. Finished with a garnish of fresh coriander, this recipe is perfect when paired with naan, roti, or steamed rice. With minimal preparation and maximum flavor, these spicy mutton chops are ideal for both hearty family meals and impressive dinner parties.
Clean the mutton chops thoroughly and pat them dry with a paper towel.
In a large mixing bowl, combine yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, lemon juice, and mustard oil to make the marinade.
Add the mutton chops to the marinade, ensuring they are evenly coated. Cover the bowl and let the chops marinate for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight in the refrigerator.
Finely slice the onions and slit the green chilies lengthwise. Set them aside.
Heat 2 tablespoons of mustard oil in a heavy-bottomed pan on medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated mutton chops to the pan in batches and sear them for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
In the same pan, add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown. Add the slit green chilies and sauté for another minute.
Return the seared mutton chops to the pan and mix them with the onions and chilies.
Pour 1 cup of water into the pan, cover it with a lid, and let the chops simmer on low heat for 25-30 minutes or until the mutton is tender and the flavors are well infused. Stir occasionally and add more water if needed.
Once the mutton chops are cooked and the gravy has thickened slightly, garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
Serve the spicy mutton chops hot with naan, roti, or steamed rice.
