πŸ“ Instructions

11 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).

2

Wash the oranges and the lemon thoroughly. Use a fork to pierce each piece of fruit several times all around.

3

Stud each orange with 4 whole cloves, evenly spaced around the surface.

4

Place the oranges and lemon on a baking tray and roast in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, turning them halfway through for even roasting.

5

While the fruit roasts, pour the red wine into a large saucepan and set it over low heat. Ensure it heats gently and never boils to preserve the aromas of the wine.

6

Once the roasted fruits are done, slice them in half and squeeze their juice into the wine. Drop the squeezed peels into the pot as well to infuse extra flavor.

7

Add the brown sugar and a cinnamon stick to the saucepan, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.

8

Simmer the mixture on low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Again, do not allow it to boil.

9

After simmering, strain the wine mixture through a fine sieve to remove the orange and lemon peels as well as the cinnamon stick.

10

Add the port to the strained mixture and heat gently for another 15 minutes, ensuring it’s warm but not boiling.

11

Serve the Smoking Bishop warm in mugs or heatproof glasses, garnished with an extra cinnamon stick or orange slice if desired. Enjoy!
