πŸ“ Instructions

8 steps
1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, Italian breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, 2 minced garlic cloves, chopped parsley, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix gently using your hands until just combined.

2

Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a plate or baking sheet.

3

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and sear them on all sides until browned (they do not need to be fully cooked). Transfer the browned meatballs to the slow cooker.

4

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the remaining 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 more minute. Transfer the onion and garlic mixture to the slow cooker.

5

Add the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes (with their juices), tomato paste, water or beef broth, basil, oregano, bay leaf, sugar, red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper to the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine, being careful not to break up the meatballs.

6

Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on low for 6 hours, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened.

7

Before serving, remove the bay leaf and taste the sauce, adjusting the seasoning as needed.

8

Serve the spaghetti sauce and meatballs over cooked spaghetti or pasta of your choice, and sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
