📝 Instructions

11 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

2

Cook the elbow macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

3

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 6-8 minutes.

4

Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet with the sausage. Cook until the onion softens and becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

5

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

6

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux. Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened, about 3-4 minutes.

7

Stir the shredded mozzarella and cheddar into the milk mixture until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.

8

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, sausage-tomato sauce, and melted cheese sauce. Mix until well combined.

9

Pour half of the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the Parmesan cheese over the top. Add the remaining macaroni mixture and top with the rest of the Parmesan cheese.

10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

11

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
