📝 Instructions

12 steps
1

In a mixing bowl, add 200 grams of sathumavu flour.

2

Gradually sprinkle 100 ml of water over the flour while mixing with your hands to moisten it evenly. The texture should be crumbly, not wet. To test, press some flour in your fist; it should hold its shape and crumble when broken.

3

Add 0.25 teaspoon of salt to the moistened flour and mix well.

4

Boil water in the puttu steamer base and let it come to a rolling boil.

5

Meanwhile, take the puttu maker cylinder and layer 2 tablespoons of grated coconut at the bottom.

6

Add a layer of moistened sathumavu flour over the coconut up to the halfway point of the cylinder.

7

Top it with another layer of 2 tablespoons of grated coconut.

8

Repeat the remaining flour until the cylinder is full, finishing with a final layer of coconut.

9

Place the puttu cylinder on top of the steamer, ensuring a tight seal to prevent steam escape.

10

Steam the puttu on high heat for about 10-12 minutes or until you see steam escaping from the top of the cylinder.

11

Once done, remove the puttu cylinder carefully and let it cool for a minute.

12

Using the back of a spoon, gently push the puttu from the cylinder onto a plate and serve hot with banana or sugar.
