Rice Bil Shareyah, or White Rice with Browned Fideo Noodles, is a delightful Middle Eastern-inspired side dish that brings a unique twist to your traditional rice recipes. This fragrant, buttery blend combines fluffy basmati or long-grain rice with golden-brown fideo noodles (broken vermicelli), sautΓ©ed to perfection in a mix of rich butter and vegetable oil. Cooked to tender, savory perfection in water or chicken broth, this dish stands out with its nutty aroma and irresistibly soft, fluffy texture. Quick to prepare in just 30 minutes, itβs versatile enough to accompany roasted meats, grilled vegetables, or hearty stews. Perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings, this recipe transforms simple pantry staples into a comforting, flavorful dish thatβs sure to impress.
Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch. Drain and set aside.
In a medium-sized, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the butter and vegetable oil over medium heat until the butter is melted.
Add the fideo noodles to the pot and sautΓ©, stirring constantly, until they turn a deep golden brown. Be careful not to burn the noodles.
Once the noodles are browned, add the rinsed and drained rice to the pot. Stir well to coat the rice and noodles in the butter and oil mixture.
Pour in the water or chicken broth and add the salt. Stir to combine.
Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and all the liquid is absorbed.
Remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes to allow the steam to redistribute evenly.
Fluff the rice and noodles gently with a fork before serving.
Serve warm as a side dish alongside your favorite meat or vegetable dishes.
