📝 Instructions

8 steps
1

Rinse the black glutinous rice thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.

2

In a large pot, combine the rice with 1.5 liters of water and add the pandan leaves, tied into knots.

3

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover the pot partially and cook for about 60 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

4

After 60 minutes, check the rice for tenderness. It should be soft and the consistency should be porridge-like.

5

Once the rice is cooked, add the palm sugar and continue to stir until the sugar has dissolved completely. Cook for an additional 15 minutes.

6

Remove the pandan leaves from the pot.

7

Add a pinch of salt and the granulated sugar to the coconut milk, stirring until dissolved.

8

To serve, ladle the pulut hitam into bowls and drizzle the sweetened coconut milk over the top. Serve warm.
