📝 Instructions

8 steps
1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside. Leave about 2 tablespoons of the bacon fat in the pan.

3

Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon fat and sauté until softened and translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another 1 minute until fragrant.

4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, hot sauce (if using), smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and water. Stir until well mixed.

5

In a 9x13-inch baking dish (or similar casserole dish), mix together the rinsed and drained navy beans, cooked bacon, sautéed onion and garlic, and the sauce mixture. Make sure the beans are evenly coated with the sauce.

6

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

7

After 45 minutes, remove the foil, give the beans a stir, and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

8

Remove the baked beans from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy on their own!
