Indulge in the rich and aromatic flavors of these Paleo Traditional Besan Laddoos, a healthy spin on the beloved Indian sweet. Crafted with nutrient-rich almond flour, natural coconut sugar, and silky coconut oil, this recipe transforms the classic into a guilt-free treat perfect for paleo diets. Enhanced with a hint of cardamom and topped with optional chopped pistachios or almonds, each laddoo offers a delicate balance of sweetness and spice. With just 10 minutes of prep time and 15 minutes of cooking, these laddoos are not only quick to make but also free of refined sugar and gluten, making them ideal for modern health-conscious kitchens. Enjoy these wholesome delights as a festive dessert or a nourishing snack, and relish their melt-in-your-mouth goodness!
Place a non-stick or heavy-bottomed pan over low heat. Add the almond flour and dry roast it for 5-7 minutes, stirring continuously to avoid burning. The flour should turn aromatic and slightly darker in color. Remove from heat when done.
In the same pan, melt the coconut oil over low heat. Once melted, add the roasted almond flour back into the pan and mix well, ensuring it's evenly coated with the coconut oil. Continue to cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add the coconut sugar to the almond flour mixture, stirring thoroughly until well combined. Allow the sugar to melt slightly into the mixture, but do not let it burn. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
Sprinkle cardamom powder into the mixture and stir until evenly distributed. Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool until it is warm to the touch but not hot (to avoid burning your hands).
Once cooled, take a small portion of the mixture (about 2 tablespoons) in your hands and roll it into a smooth ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used up.
Optionally, garnish each laddoo with a small piece of chopped pistachio or almond by gently pressing it into the top of the ball.
Allow the laddoos to set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
