Savor the bold, smoky flavors of these irresistible Paleo BBQ Baby Back Ribs, a wholesome and satisfying twist on a barbecue classic! Tender, fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs are coated in a rich spice rub featuring smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder, and slowly baked to perfection. The star of the dish is the homemade paleo BBQ sauce—a luscious blend of coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, honey, and tomato paste, enhanced with garlic, ground mustard, and a hint of cayenne for a subtle heat. The ribs are finished with a caramelized glaze that's as sticky as it is finger-licking good, making this recipe a perfect crowd-pleaser. Whether you're hosting a summer cookout or craving comfort food on a Whole30 or paleo diet, these BBQ ribs will be your go-to for maximum flavor with clean ingredients.
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
Prepare the ribs by removing the membrane from the back of each rack. To do this, use a sharp knife to lift the edge of the membrane and use a paper towel to grab and pull it off.
In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs.
Wrap each rack tightly in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 2.5 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
While the ribs are cooking, prepare the BBQ sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine the coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, honey, tomato paste, minced garlic, ground mustard, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently.
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes until it thickens. Stir occasionally.
After 2.5 hours, remove the ribs from the oven and carefully unwrap them.
Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C).
Brush the ribs generously with the BBQ sauce and place them back in the oven, uncovered, for an additional 20-30 minutes.
Remove from the oven once the sauce is sticky and caramelized.
Let the ribs rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
