📝 Instructions

7 steps
1

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Cook the bratwurst sausages for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.

2

Peel and thinly slice the yellow onions. In another large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for about 15 minutes or until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Remove from heat.

3

Toast the hoagie rolls lightly in a toaster or under the broiler for a few minutes until warm and slightly crisp.

4

Spread 1 tablespoon of whole-grain mustard on the inside of each hoagie roll.

5

Place a cooked bratwurst sausage inside each hoagie roll. Top with a layer of caramelized onions and 1-2 tablespoons of sauerkraut, depending on preference.

6

Lay 1 slice of Swiss cheese over the top of each hoagie. Arrange the sandwiches on a baking sheet and place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

7

Serve immediately, paired with a cold German-style beer or your favorite drink to complete the Oktoberfest experience!
